About the founder
Dr. Allama Elmehdi
Physician by training, health economist by practice. She founded NexuOneSC to help health projects cross the gap between a real need and a decision that ministries, investors and regulators can make with confidence.
Professional story
Allama Elmehdi qualified as a doctor at the Faculty of Medicine of Nouakchott in Mauritania.
She went on to study biotechnology business and health economics, and for a decade has worked where medicine, finance and regulation meet. She founded and led Prophamedis International, a healthcare investment firm in Mauritania, managing strategic partnerships and regulatory processes for international medical investments. As an independent consultant she built the feasibility plan, financial strategy and economic model for Mauritania's first national central mental health hospital, and did the same for a technology-transfer project to create the country's first manufacturing industry for dialysis products and medical devices. She also evaluated the integration and financial sustainability of a care model for the Ministry of Health.
In the GCC she served as Chief Compliance Officer for surgical and humanoid robotics projects, aligning product development with FDA, EU MDR and AI medical-device requirements. With colleagues from the African Association of Nephrology she co-edited and co-authored the Nouakchott Declaration on Organ Donation & Transplantation, presenting a regional financing model for transplant programmes.
Today she is GCC Director at the Biotechnology Business Institute Cambridge and a Visiting Research Fellow at United Nations University (UNU-CRIS). She reviews for BMJ Public Health and the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Research, co-convenes the International Health Economics Association's Health Systems' Efficiency group, and mentors at New York University Abu Dhabi. She writes the NexuOneSC for global health newsletter.
